The mystery begins just three months after Link's triumph over Ganondorf in Ocarina of Time. Dejected, Link leads Epona through a dark mist in search of her faithful fairy friend Navi. To Epona's surprise, two mischievous fairies materialize from the mist, causing Link's Ross to panic. These two fairies turn out to be sisters, aptly named Tatl and Tael. As Link falls to the ground and loses consciousness, a disguised Skull Kid emerges from the mist. The Masked Marauder, gleeful and ghoulish, steals Link's Ocarina and immediately mounts Epona. Link hunts, of course, unaware that he's not just chasing a Skull Kid, but one possessed by the mystical power of Majora's Mask. At the end of their escape, Link unknowingly follows the Skull Kid through a powerful portal leading to a parallel universe.
This new land is called Termina, and while it shares many of the same characteristics and people as Hyrule, it is a unique world that Link is irritatingly familiar with. It doesn't take long for Link to discover that he has arrived in Termina at the worst possible time. Not only is there a Skull Kid on the loose, powered by Majora's Mask's dark power, but the moon itself will plummet into the atmosphere and devastate the earth in just three days. Link knows this is no coincidence. Before sunrise on the fourth day, Link must somehow solve the mystery of Majora's Mask and save Termina from his own moon's insane mission.
Masks play an important role in Link's Terminian adventure. Early in his quest, Link meets a traveling salesman from the Happy Mask Shop. It's not immediately clear whether this dark character is allied with the forces of good or evil, but he does claim to be the rightful owner of Majora's mask. It's this traveling salesman who limits Link's exploits to three days, which coincidentally coincides with the inflexible schedule of the waning moon. The Happy Mask Shop nomad representative gives Link his first mask, the Deku Mask. While wearing this mask, Link can do business with Deku Scrubs, who would normally ignore him in human form.
When Link wears the Goron Mask, he inhabits the body of a fallen Goron named Darmani. Goron Link is one of the most unusual Gorons you'll ever see. Disguised as a rock-eating Darmani, Link is equipped with a powerful punch and the ability to roll in a frenzied wheel of spikes. When Link takes the Zora Mask and transforms into a Zora, he instantly gains the ability to speed through water like a dolphin. Of course, many of the puzzles in Majora's Mask require Link to use the primary transformation masks listed above. However, there are over 20 additional masks that can help you in other ways. Some masks allow Link to speak to specific characters, while others grant Link special powers, such as B. the ability to run faster. Sometimes the possibilities seem endless.
